Emotional Rescue Sessions

We Had It All

"Emotional Rescue" outtake from Pathe Marconi, Paris, June 21 - August 25, 1979 sessions. This is not a Jagger/Richards composition.

There are three variations of the same take:

* Harmonica introduction and outro, piano - left channel, acoustic guitar - right, electric guitar - middle right. (2:47)

** No harmonica, replaced with slide guitar (maybe a Parsons/White G-bender) that plays through the entire track. (2:45)

+ Harmonica and slide version (2:42)

Found on LP's:

* "Accidents May Happen" Eva Records (ENG 5001 A/B/C/D)

The song very possibly first surfaced on this 1981 release

* "Claudine" Dead Spider Records (KOK 709-1/2)

Color cover is of the Europe '76 promo poster. Backside artwork is the "Black & Blue" bondage promo with photo's of Claudine Longet substituted for the LP covers!

* "In Tune With The City: Jam" Music Of Distinction (MOD 1000-A/B/C/D)

The Richards photo used for the insert of this LP probably copied from the color photo of this Japanese magazine cover found on page 170 of the Dalton/Karnbach/Beach book "The First Twenty Years". Includes classic tracks from the 1981 Long View Farm rehearsals, North Brookfield, New York.

* "Rolling Stones: Soul Survivor" Great Live Concerts (KR-SOLO-A/B/C/D)

The Jagger photo used for the insert of this LP is from the October 12, 1968 "Rolling Stone" interview photo sessions (polo shirt shots). This source lacks sound fidelity.

** "The Emotional Rescue Sessions" 2LP (RSERS 1979-A/B/C/D)

On dark red and blue "splash" vinyl.

+ "Aback into the Future" World of Music (KKP8-A/B/C/D)

"Static In The Attic"

The Words:

I can hear the wind a blowin' in my mind

Just the way it used to sound through the Georgia Pines

You were there to answer when I call...yeah (vocal marker I)

You and me we had it all

Remember how I used to touch your hand

While reaching for the freedom

That was always there

You were the best thing in my life I can recall...Ohh (vocal marker II)

You and me we had it all

Incredible Vocal Bridge Section:

I know that we can, never live these times again

So I let these dreams, take me back to where we've been

Then I'll stay there with you for as long as I can

Oh it was so good, Yeah and it was so good

Oh it was so good, when I was your man

Instrumental Bridge

And I'll never stop believing in your smile

Even though it didn't stay, it was all worthwhile

You were the best thing in my life I, can recall ... Ohh (vocal marker III)

You and me we had it all

You and me we had it all

This infamous Richards classic has been prolifically copied on recordings featuring the unreleased works of the " Human Riff", even when its inclusion is out of date content wise. Incredible country soul sung by the master in his prime. I have to remind myself that this can't be found on Emotional Rescue when I come across it. This track is finished, and it's a terrible loss for Richards that is has never been officially released. This one is buried treasure!

Now baby...and it's all the same

Everybody told me, that ..you are the same

I love that girl with all my heart

And I love my girl

I seen the world... shinny cars ....again

I seen the world... shinny cars

'C' ...

And I wish to hell, I never fell in love at all ....again

I wish to hell, I never fell in love at all

'Am' ...

Gangster's Moll

Gangster's Moll ...one more time

'Am' ...

Gangster's Moll

First surfaced on the "Lonely At The Top" LP on Nondon Records. I received direct mail advertisement sent to my home, regarding the release of this record! I still have the flyer somewhere. Jagger calls out the chord changes. An unusual slow bluesy ballad. This sad, sad, song is loaded with soul.

Linda Lu

"Emotional Rescue" sessions outtake from Compass Point Studios, Nassau, Bahamas January 18 - February 12, 1979 sessions. This title was incorrectly attributed to the song "Dancing Girls" on the classic LP source "Lonely At The Top" on Nondon Records. This mis-titling was "passed along" until the actual song was unearthed by the distinguished Stones specialty label "Outsider Bird Records" in January, 1993. This somewhat obscure song was performed and authored by an artist who had a string of songs chart in the late 50's (specifically 1958). He recorded for the old Dot record label.

Found on LP:

"Paris Results" Outsider Bird Records (PR 1 A/PR-1 B) 200 numbered copies on pressed blue vinyl, with an insert cover and the backside rubber stamped.

Note that LP titles such as "From The Archives" and "Lonely At The Top" list Linda Lu but the recordings are actually "Dancing Girls".

Found on CD's:

"Paris Results" Outsider Bird Records (OBR-CD-93-001)

"Place Pigalle (Vol. 1)" Save The Earth (STE 015)

"Some Girl Memories" Rogue (RG 003/7S507891)

"Made In The Shade 1978" Invasion Unlimited (IU9537-1)

Note: The CD's "Lonely At The Top" (VGP-057) & "Compass Point Works: Part 1" (ODY 003 ROLLO 1) list the song title as Linda Lu, but the song is actually "Dancing Girls".

The Words (4:39):

They call my baby Patty, but, I remember, remember, remember, Linda Lu

They call my baby Patty, but, I remember, remember, remember, Linda Lu

She's so fine and darn too pretty I never know what that baby gonna do

She walkin' down the street, all the cats, all the cats, all the cats, turn to look around

She walkin' down the street, all the cats, all the cats, all the cats, turn to look around

She a fine dog-gone lady, she the best lookin' girl we had in this town

Vocal Bridge:

Gonna remember that girl on Saturday night

We go out for the rest of my nights

And in my roamin' and Daisy too

And it's all because of that chick . . .

Linda Linda Linda Linda Linda, tell me what's you gonna do?

Had a real bad dream last night

I dreamed I went a stroll

You're a fine doggone lady

You're, you gonna break my heart in two

A Linda Lu

All right solo...

Instrumental Break: Guitar Solo

Linda Lu, Linda Lu, Lu Linda Linda Linda Linda Linda

T..T..tell me, w..w..what, is you gonna do?

Linda Linda L..Linda Linda Linda L..Linda, baby what's you gonna do?

Had a real bad dream last night

She went and f**ked Ronnie with the whole do

Ohh...

Instrumental Break: Guitar Solo - John Lee Hooker style!

Linda, Linda, L..Linda L..Linda L..Linda, Linda, tell me what's you gonna do?

Had a real bad dream last night honey

I dreamed, I dreamed, I dreamed, that we was through

You gonna put me down out and leave me

Or ya'all, break my former doll heart in two

Whaa-lin-looo

String mutes, lotsa reverb, 50's swing and you got Rockabilly. This is the third specific reference in this series of unreleased transcriptions to a guy named "Ronnie" (the other two are heard within Figi Gin and Do You Think I Care). There is a version of Star Star (a Web Pick) from the 1997 tour where Jagger replaces Ali McGraw with none other than Pattie Boyd. The former wife of George Harrison and Eric Clapton. She was also the girl friend of one Ron Wood, and is said to be the inspiration of songs that include All You Need Is Love, Something, Layla, and Wonderful Tonight. Maybe Jagger finds humor in making these references?
