Now baby...and it's all the same
Everybody told me, that ..you are the same
I love that girl with all my heart
And I love my girl
I seen the world... shinny cars ....again

First surfaced on the "Lonely At The Top" LP on Nondon Records. I received direct mail advertisement sent to my home, regarding the release of this record! I still have the flyer somewhere. Jagger calls out the chord changes. An unusual slow bluesy ballad. This sad, sad, song is loaded with soul.
Linda Lu
"Emotional Rescue" sessions outtake from Compass Point Studios, Nassau, Bahamas January 18 - February 12, 1979 sessions. This title was incorrectly attributed to the song "Dancing Girls" on the classic LP source "Lonely At The Top" on Nondon Records. This mis-titling was "passed along" until the actual song was unearthed by the distinguished Stones specialty label "Outsider Bird Records" in January, 1993. This somewhat obscure song was performed and authored by an artist who had a string of songs chart in the late 50's (specifically 1958). He recorded for the old Dot record label.
Found on LP:
"Paris Results" Outsider Bird Records (PR 1 A/PR-1 B) 200 numbered copies on pressed blue vinyl, with an insert cover and the backside rubber stamped.
Note that LP titles such as "From The Archives" and "Lonely At The Top" list Linda Lu but the recordings are actually "Dancing Girls".

Note: The CD's "Lonely At The Top" (VGP-057) & "Compass Point Works: Part 1" (ODY 003 ROLLO 1) list the song title as Linda Lu, but the song is actually "Dancing Girls".
The Words (4:39):
They call my baby Patty, but, I remember, remember, remember, Linda Lu
They call my baby Patty, but, I remember, remember, remember, Linda Lu
She's so fine and darn too pretty I never know what that baby gonna do
She walkin' down the street, all the cats, all the cats, all the cats, turn to look around
She walkin' down the street, all the cats, all the cats, all the cats, turn to look around
She a fine dog-gone lady, she the best lookin' girl we had in this town
Vocal Bridge:
Gonna remember that girl on Saturday night
We go out for the rest of my nights
And in my roamin' and Daisy too
And it's all because of that chick . . .
Linda Linda Linda Linda Linda, tell me what's you gonna do?
Had a real bad dream last night
I dreamed I went a stroll
You're a fine doggone lady
You're, you gonna break my heart in two
A Linda Lu
All right solo...
Instrumental Break: Guitar Solo
Linda Lu, Linda Lu, Lu Linda Linda Linda Linda Linda
T..T..tell me, w..w..what, is you gonna do?
Linda Linda L..Linda Linda Linda L..Linda, baby what's you gonna do?

Instrumental Break: Guitar Solo - John Lee Hooker style!
Linda, Linda, L..Linda L..Linda L..Linda, Linda, tell me what's you gonna do?
Had a real bad dream last night honey
I dreamed, I dreamed, I dreamed, that we was through
You gonna put me down out and leave me
Or ya'all, break my former doll heart in two
Whaa-lin-looo
String mutes, lotsa reverb, 50's swing and you got Rockabilly. This is the third specific reference in this series of unreleased transcriptions to a guy named "Ronnie" (the other two are heard within Figi Gin and Do You Think I Care). There is a version of Star Star (a Web Pick) from the 1997 tour where Jagger replaces Ali McGraw with none other than Pattie Boyd. The former wife of George Harrison and Eric Clapton. She was also the girl friend of one Ron Wood, and is said to be the inspiration of songs that include All You Need Is Love, Something, Layla, and Wonderful Tonight. Maybe Jagger finds humor in making these references?
Petrol Gang (3:40)
Jagger rehearsing with Ian Stewart on Piano. We hear Jagger with the original Rolling Stone, who would have been a Stone had it not been for Andrew Loog Oldham. The track is rollicking boogie woogie piano as only "Stu" can play it. Recorded at Compass Point Studios, Nassau, Bahamas, January 18 - February 12, 1979.

The Words:
Fades in...
Please Mr. President, say it isn't so
And I have a buck till I'm on duct ten row
Please Mr. President, say it isn't so
I don't wanna, pay $10.00 for gas
I got nowhere to go...
I talk to Mr. Getty
I talk to Texaco
I talk to Standard Oil
They say they got plenty to go..oh
Please Mr. President, say it isn't so
I don't have to sell my Cadillac that I, just paid for
I just paid for...
Play it faster Stu
Bit behind there..dear
About two miles (pause) behind me
Please Mr. President, say it isn't so
I don't have to sell my Cadillac that I just paid for
I talk to Mr. Getty
And I talk to Standard Oil
They say they got plenty
But they ain't gonna part for no more
(Laughs)
Please Mr. Getty, I'm from Standard Oil
I'm down in Houston, where they got it all stored
I phone the coaster, the funk, and all the guard
We don't need none of those
We don't need any of that Arab stuff
Aw, please Mr. President, say it isn't so
I don't have to sell my Cadillac, I just paid for
My friend says the trouble is this country's too Goddamn big
Maybe we should pull it in from the ages a bit
Maybe that way we'll have so far to go
I called Mr. Getty, I even called-up Texaco, Texaco
They got plenty left, they got, plenty to go
Hey Mr. President, say it isn't so
Aw, Mr. President, say it isn't so
Why do I have to sell my Cadillac I just paid for, I just paid for...
Ends abruptly (Fast breaths)
Notice how the piano riff evolves into a rolling groove after Jagger's coaxing of Stewart at the half-way point in the song. There is also a light drum cymbal playing along and slight bass drum stomp.
We Had It All
"Emotional Rescue" outtake from Pathe Marconi, Paris, June 21 - August 25, 1979 sessions. This is not a Jagger/Richards composition.
There are three variations of the same take:
* Harmonica introduction and outro, piano - left channel, acoustic guitar - right, electric guitar - middle right. (2:47)
** No harmonica, replaced with slide guitar (maybe a Parsons/White G-bender) that plays through the entire track. (2:45)
+ Harmonica and slide version (2:42)
Found on LP's:
* "Accidents May Happen" Eva Records (ENG 5001 A/B/C/D)
The song very possibly first surfaced on this 1981 release
* "Claudine" Dead Spider Records (KOK 709-1/2)
Color cover is of the Europe '76 promo poster. Backside artwork is the "Black & Blue" bondage promo with photo's of Claudine Longet substituted for the LP covers!
* "In Tune With The City: Jam" Music Of Distinction (MOD 1000-A/B/C/D)
The Richards photo used for the insert of this LP probably copied from the color photo of this Japanese magazine cover found on page 170 of the Dalton/Karnbach/Beach book "The First Twenty Years". Includes classic tracks from the 1981 Long View Farm rehearsals, North Brookfield, New York.
* "Rolling Stones: Soul Survivor" Great Live Concerts (KR-SOLO-A/B/C/D)
The Jagger photo used for the insert of this LP is from the October 12, 1968 "Rolling Stone" interview photo sessions (polo shirt shots). This source lacks sound fidelity.

The Words:
I can hear the wind a blowin' in my mind
Just the way it used to sound through the Georgia Pines
You were there to answer when I call...yeah (vocal marker I)
You and me we had it all
Remember how I used to touch your hand
While reaching for the freedom
That was always there
You were the best thing in my life I can recall...Ohh (vocal marker II)
You and me we had it all
Incredible Vocal Bridge Section:
I know that we can, never live these times again
So I let these dreams, take me back to where we've been
Then I'll stay there with you for as long as I can
Oh it was so good, Yeah and it was so good
Oh it was so good, when I was your man
Instrumental Bridge
And I'll never stop believing in your smile
Even though it didn't stay, it was all worthwhile
You were the best thing in my life I, can recall ... Ohh (vocal marker III)
You and me we had it all
You and me we had it all
This infamous Richards classic has been prolifically copied on recordings featuring the unreleased works of the " Human Riff", even when its inclusion is out of date content wise. Incredible country soul sung by the master in his prime. I have to remind myself that this can't be found on Emotional Rescue when I come across it. This track is finished, and it's a terrible loss for Richards that is has never been officially released. This one is buried treasure!
Claudine
This is one of those biographical Rolling Stones songs, and quite literal with respect to the chronology of events. More accurate than say Midnight Rambler as these things go. At the age of 19 Claudine Longet was the lead dancer with Follies BergFre show in Las Vegas. She met Andy Williams while in the follies and married him, although she was 14 years younger. She had three children with Williams, and in the mid sixties pursued an acting and singing career. She met Olympic skier Vladimir "Spider" Sabich while at a celebrity ski tournament in Bear Valley in 1972. By 1975 she and her children had moved into Sabich's stone and log chalet in the Starwood section of Aspen, Colorado. Things went well between the two for nearly a year until the relationship started to deteriorate and Sabich asked that she leave the premises by April 1, 1976. On March 21, 1976 Sabich was shot dead on his bathroom floor with a .22 caliber pistol. Longet was responsible for what her lawyers described as an "accident". She said that Sabich had been showing her how to use the gun when it went off. Ballistics experts at the trial testified that the safety catch was defective on the gun. He was killed by a single bullet (the only inaccuracy in the song is the reference to three shots) to the abdomen and bled to death on the way to the hospital. He was 31 years old. On January 14, 1977 she was convicted of negligent homicide and spent 30 days in the Pitkin County Jail. Claudine was granted family rights during the week which meant that she only served time on the weekends. She went on to marry her defense attorney and continues to live in Aspen.
I first heard this song in 1981 after I had stopped in a local "hole in the wall" record shop on the way home from work one evening and found the LP "Accidents Will Happen - Claudine". I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Claudine and the other songs released on this disc for the first time represented the most significant collection of outtake recordings since Trade Mark of Quality's "Bright Lights Big City". It is likely that this Eva Records release is possibly the work of the guys at TMoQ. Claudine was recorded at Pathe Marconi Studios Paris, France, the time period between Mid-January to March 2, 1978.
There are three versions of the song:
1st Version (8:02): A slow tempo with Jagger singing in a meandering drawl. Dual guitar weave.
2nd Version (3:32): This is an uptempo little number with a country two-step feel to it.
3rd Version (3:03): Edit of the 2nd version (2 chorus versus removed in the center section of the song; noted by * in the transcription).
The Words: 2nd Version
Claudine's back in jail again
Claudine's back in jail again
Claudine's back in jail again
Claudine...
Claudine's back in jail again
Claudine's back in jail again
She only does it, at weekends
Claudine...
Now only Spider knows for sure
But he ain't talkin' about it any more
Is he Claudine?
There was blood in the chalet
Blood in the snow
She washed her hands of the whole damn show
Claudine...
She shot him once right through the head
She shot him twice right through the chest
Judge ruled it was an accident Claudine...
Accidents will happen...
Well, Claudine's back in jail again
Claudine's back in jail again
Claudine's back in jail again
Claudine...
* Claudine's back in jail again
* Claudine's back in jail again
* Claudine's back in jail again
* Claudine...
* Yeah, poor Claudine
* Poor Claudine
* Claudine's back in jail again
* Claudine's back in jail again
* Claudine's back in jail again
* Claudine...
* Note: Edited from 3rd Version
Poor Claudine
Poor Claudine
Poor, poor, poor Claudine
Now I threaten my wife now with a gun
But I always leave the safety on
I recommend it, Claudine
Yeah, pistol whip me once or twice
Never ever try to take my life
What do you think about that?
Claudine...
Claudine's back in jail again
Claudine's back in jail again
She only does it, at weekends
Claudine...
Poor...poor
Poor Claudine
Poor Claudine
Whoohoo
What about your children Claudine?
Poor, poor children?
You're the prettiest girl I've ever seen
Only see you on the movie screen
Hope you never try to make a sacrifice of me Clau..(dine)
Uhh Uhh
Don't get, don't get too trigger happy with me Claudine
Itchy fingers
Yeah, Claudine's back in jail again
Claudine's back in jail again
Claudine's back in jail again
Claudine...
Ohhohhhwhoo
Ohhohhhwhoo
Ohhohhhwhoo
Ohhohhhwhoo
Ohhohhhwhoo
Poor, poor, poor, Claudine (outro)

Gemstones:
Best quality sound found on "Static In The Attic". Clear stereo mix with no audible tape hiss. All sources used on this disc are impeccable! "Lonely At The Top" CD's are also very good sources.
Missing In Action:
The song is taunting and not completely factual, so it is no surprise that the Stones "establishment" had some concern with the litigation that would ensue had it ever ended up as the closing track on "Emotional Rescue". The song and the incident are dated now, but for those who still write about "Spider" today, there are still many good memories.
